Wilmington Issues Weekly Traffic and Travel Advisory for Special Events, Street Repaving, Other Construction or Repair Projects | City News – wilmingtonde.gov

Wilmington’s Public Works Department has compiled the attached list of streets on which construction or, maintenance will occur over the next week by the City itself, or by either DelDOT, Delmarva Power, or private contractors. The attached information is for Monday, October 10 through Friday, October 14, 2022.  

The City’s website contains a real-time map that is updated daily so you can follow any changes to the weekly schedule caused by weather or other construction-related delays. Public Works Commissioner Kelly Williams said every effort is made to compile the most accurate list each week of street projects that could affect your travel in the City the following week. She cautioned, however, that the time frames for the listed projects could be altered if they are delayed due to factors such as the weather.

Downtown Farmers Market
Motorists are also reminded that the Downtown Farmers Market takes place at Rodney Square from 10 a.m. until 2 p.m. each Wednesday – rain or shine – through October. For this reason, Market Street between 10^th and 11^th streets will be closed every Wednesday to vehicle traffic from 8 a.m. until 3 p.m. 

I-95 Restore the Corridor Project
Phase Two of the Delaware Department of Transportation’s (DelDOT) two-year reconstruction project to refurbish and resurface Interstate 95 that runs through the City of Wilmington is ongoing. Traffic continues to move in both directions on the northbound side of the highway. To keep up with what is planned, what will occur, and how it will affect your travels, please do the following:

• Visit the DelDOT Restore the Corridor website often (daily if possible) and sign up for updates including text messages: restorethecorridor.com 
• Download and share an informative Restore the Corridor Project Guide, available online here.
• Call DelDOT with questions or concerns. The DelDOT Community Relations Office can be reached by dialing at 302.760.2080, or you can direct your questions to the DelDOT Transportation Management Center by dialing 302.659.4600. 

Weekend Closure of I-95 Southbound
DelDOT reminds motorists that the weekend closure of Southbound I-95, originally scheduled for last weekend, will take place this weekend instead.  

• Southbound I-95 – Total Weekend Closure from Exit8/Route 202 to I-495 split, including the 2^nd Street onramp to I-95 Southbound, from 8 p.m. tonight, Friday, October 7 to 5 a.m. on Monday, October 10, 2022.

Detours:

• I-95 Southbound – Motorists coming from Pennsylvania will be directed to use I-495 Southbound. Local traffic entering I-95 Southbound will be detoured off at Exit 8/US 202 and directed to Southbound Route 141 back to I-95 Southbound.

• 2^nd Street onramp – Motorists will be directed to MLK Boulevard to US 13 South to I-495 South. 

Upon I-95’s reopening at 5 a.m. on Monday, October 10:  

• Exit Ramp 7B (Route 52/Delaware Avenue Northbound) will be OPEN, as will Exit 7A (Route 52/Delaware Avenue Southbound)
• Southbound I-95 traffic will travel on the newly constructed Southbound lanes, with a single lane available through Wilmington.

DelDOT also announced the following scheduled closures related to the ongoing work on I-95, weather permitting:

• Southbound I-95 – Total Weekend Closure from Route 202 to the Brandywine River Bridge from 9 a.m. on Friday, October 14 to 5 a.m. on Tuesday, October 18, 2022.
• Northbound I-95 – Total Weekend Closure from I-495 to Route 202 from 8 p.m. on Friday, October 28 to 5 a.m. on Monday, October 31, 2022.

Slow Down in the I-95 Work Zone or Be Ticketed

DelDOT and the Delaware State Police remind motorists that the Electronic Speed Camera Safety Program is issuing tickets with fines included if you go over the stated speed limit.
