Amarillo College won five awards with three first-place awards in a recent national competition.
AC’s Communications and Marketing Department emerged from the 10th Annual Education Digital Marketing Awards with five national collegiate marketing awards, three at the topmost Gold level.
The Education Digital Marketing (EDM) Awards are endorsed by Higher Education Marketing Report and recognize the best digital content, electronic communications, mobile media, social media and educational websites. Each submission was reviewed and judged by a national panel of higher education marketers, advertising creative directors, marketing and advertising professionals, and the EDM editorial board.
“These recognitions say that all of our touchpoints, our marketing, communications, educational programs, a lot of our culture of caring and social events are being recognized across that country as a unit that makes AC an important educational brand,” said Kevin Ball, AC’s vice president of communications and marketing. “When you put this all together and we are recognized for our excellence, it shines on the excellence of the programs too for the students.”
AC was ranked against colleges, universities and secondary schools from across the country that combined to submit more than 1,000 entries. AC received Gold recognition in multiple categories, including Total Digital Marketing Program, Social Media Content Campaign, and Athletic Promotion. Ball said the acknowledgement for the athletic program was gratifying and unexpected, considering they had just revived AC’s Intercollegiate Athletics Program in 2021 after a decades-long hiatus.
“What I’m really excited about winning this year is the Athletics Award because that is a new submission this year. We’ve had a digital program here for as long as I’ve been here and that has received much recognition, but it’s exciting to branch out and receive recognition for something new this year, particularly in gold. That is a great honor to receive for something that we were talking a risk on and beginning from scratch,” Ball said.
In addition to the Gold recognition, AC received a Silver award for Blogs – AC News, and the College won a Bronze award for Digital Publication – “Teaching for Transformation 2022.”
According to Ball, these wins add to a long list of previous winnings at the competition and show the college’s commitment to its students to provide the best quality continuously. Next competition, Ball said, they hope to continue to showcase and feature new programs that AC has available.
“We have points that we like to focus on; next we’d like to focus on spring registration,” Ball said. “A few years ago, a lot of these programs were not in place, so we try to enter the newest thing that AC has to offer.”
